Big Points: A Handwritten Font That Adds Personality Without Sacrificing Clarity

Last week, I was finalizing the hero section for a new coaching website — clean layout, soft pastel background, and a headline that needed to feel warm but not whimsical, human but not sloppy. I tried three script fonts before landing on Big Points. Not because it was the flashiest, but because it struck that rare balance: expressive enough to convey authenticity, structured enough to hold up in a responsive web layout.

Big Points is a handwritten font from the Script Amp collection — but don’t mistake it for just another playful scrawl. Every letter has intentional weight, subtle bounce, and gentle contrast. It’s not overly connected like traditional cursive, so letters breathe individually while still feeling part of a cohesive voice. The “a”, “g”, and “y” have charming quirks — small flourishes, slight asymmetry — but none of them distract or blur at smaller sizes. That’s what made it work so well in a real-world context: it’s a script font built for digital clarity.

I tested it across devices right away. On desktop, it shined in the hero headline (“Your Growth Starts Here”) at 48px with generous letter-spacing. On mobile? Still legible at 36px — especially with a light sans serif body font (I used Inter) for contrast. No squinting. No “what does that even say?” moments. That’s critical when your headline is the first thing users see — and often the only thing they remember.

Where Big Points truly earns its place is in hero sections, section headings, and CTA banners. I used it for the “Join the Next Cohort” banner on a course sales page — over a muted gradient, with white text and a subtle drop shadow. It felt inviting, not gimmicky. For a boutique online store’s seasonal campaign landing page, I applied it to the banner headline (“Summer Stories, Handpicked”) and paired it with a crisp, neutral sans serif for product names and pricing. The contrast created instant visual hierarchy — no extra CSS tricks needed.

It’s less ideal for long paragraphs, navigation menus, or tiny buttons. As a display font, Big Points thrives in short, high-impact phrases: logo lockups, testimonial quotes, email subject lines, social media graphics, and branded web content like “Meet Your Coach” or “New Collection Live”. I wouldn’t use it for footer links or form labels — but for a “Book a Free Call” button? Absolutely, at 20px with ample padding and a bold weight.

Readability stays strong across backgrounds — I tested it over light, dark, and image overlays. With sufficient contrast (minimum 4.5:1), it holds up beautifully. On dark mode, I added a thin white stroke to ensure crisp edges without sacrificing its organic feel. And because it’s optimized as a webfont, loading was smooth — no FOIT or FOUT issues during testing. The package includes OTF, WOFF2, and variable font support, plus basic multilingual characters (Latin-based languages, including accented characters common in English, Spanish, and French). Always double-check licensing before using in client projects or commercial templates — Big Points is a commercial font, and Script Amp offers clear usage terms for websites, SaaS dashboards, and digital brand kits.

Font pairing is where Big Points really shines. Its personality needs grounding — and that’s where thoughtful font pairing comes in. I consistently paired it with Inter, Open Sans, or Manrope for body copy and UI elements. For a more editorial digital identity — say, a blog redesign or creative portfolio site — I experimented with a warm serif like Cormorant Garamond for bylines and pull quotes. The result? A layered, intentional typeface system: one voice for warmth and character, another for reliability and flow.

One unexpected win: accessibility testing. Because Big Points avoids extreme thin strokes and erratic connections, screen readers handled it predictably, and users with mild dyslexia reported easier scanning than with tighter, more decorative scripts. It doesn’t try to be everything — it knows its role. That’s why it works so well in landing pages, portfolio sites, and campaign pages: it adds humanity without undermining usability.

I also used it sparingly in a digital brand kit — not for full headers, but for accent elements: divider lines with a single repeated word (“Yes.”), signature-style credits in presentation decks, and animated intro text on a homepage video banner. In each case, it elevated the tone without overwhelming the interface. That’s the quiet power of a well-chosen handwritten font: it doesn’t shout — it connects.

If you’re building a creative font library for client work or your own digital products, Big Points deserves a spot. It’s not a novelty — it’s a tool. One that brings warmth to a UI designer’s toolkit, distinction to a web designer’s layout, and authenticity to an entrepreneur’s brand identity. Whether you're crafting a product landing page, refreshing a blog header, or designing social media graphics, it delivers modern typography with intention — not just flair.

Just remember: great script fonts aren’t about decoration. They’re about resonance. And Big Points resonates — clearly, confidently, and quietly.
